Copying a template - should clear "is a master template" cleanly (Single Copy Template bug?)

When I am starting a new release of a database design, I tend to take the existing design template, and make a new copy.

With an R5 server, what would happen is that the information on the design properties tab would copy across, and I would then go in and change the template name to say “ExpensesWorkflow_25Mar03”.

Now, with the SCT function, what seems to happen is that the client tries to write the database design properties, and fails because the Single Copy Template engine correctly refuses to allow two databases to have the same design name.

The side effect is that the database title is blanked, and other fields are missing too.

Surely a better solution would be to ensure that whenever copying a database, the Notes client always clears the “is a master template” field.

Alternatively, the server could just accept all the information except the master template field, to achieve the same result.

I prefer the first, as having multiple templates on an R5 or earlier server is a problem anyway.

Is this considered a bug ??

I had a similar problem and I think I found the solution, or at least the cause - it might be the same for your setup.

The ND6 NAB has a new security field which restricts who can create templates. Our prototype environment is still running an R5 NAB which does not have this field.

I had the same problem as you on the prototype ND6 server, but didn’t in our test environment which is completely ND6.

I assume that the prototype ND6 server is intepreting the abscence of the field in the NAB to mean that no-one is allowed.
