Configuration Files On Network Drive

I’d appreciate any thoughts about or experiences in configuring the Notes client to run with most of its key configuration files (notes.ini, *.id, names.nsf, bookmark.nsf, journal.nsf, cache.ndk, etc.) on a network drive as opposed to the local computer’s hard disc.

Does IBM consider this a “supported configuration”?

Why does Notes create a folder named IBM_Technical_Support on the network drive?

RIM’s BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and Palm’s HotSync software don’t seem to work unless the names.nsf and journal.nsf files in particular are replicated back to the local hard disc?

Subject: RE: Configuration Files On Network Drive

We’ve been told by IBM that this is not a supported configuration. The “Brain Trust” at work sometimes configures the client with these files on a networked drive and guess which users call the support desk for help more? Of course I assume there will be responses here of people doing it with no issues.

The IBM_Technical_Support folder is where NSD and other processes write information needed by IBM to troubleshoot issues.

Interesting information re: Blackberry and Hotsync. More reasons not to network the data.
