Compress Network Data on the Client

In User Preferences> User Preferences> Ports. Whats the down side? Does it do anything if its enabled on the Client and not on the server? Notes/Domino Help doesn’t tell me much. Whats the “real world” wisdom?

If one part requests encryption or compression between 2 capable parties then it will be exercised.

I believe if one part requests encryption it is enabled.

But this is what the admin help says for compression:

For compression to work, enable it on both sides of a network connection. To enable compression for a network port on a server, use the Server tab in the Domino Administrator. To enable compression on network ports on Notes workstations, from the Domino Administrator, use a setup or desktop policy settings document or from a workstation, use the User Preferences dialog box.
