Communication Issues 8.5.1 FP2 on Mac OSX 10.6.3

We have a user (the organization’s CEO) who, when at home, uses 8.5.1 FP2 on Mac OSX 10.6.3 desktop. Connected to Net wirelessly via an airport.

She likes to leave her mailbox and calendar always open, as that is what she lives and dies by.

Every couple of hours, she gets ‘Remote System not responding.’ Tracing IP port returns the same message.

Normal net connectivity via other apps is fine.

A restart of Notes fixes it and Notes starts replicating again fine (until it happens again), so it’s not firewall.

The machine is not going to sleep. Have turned all that off temporarily to eliminate that from the troubleshooting picture.

Highly embarrassing, given that it’s the CEO, and she was very frustrated, she was very happy with Notes up until now. Any help for this? We tried her on webmail instead, but she hated that. She never had this issue on Notes 6.5 or 7. It only started with the upgrade to 8.5.1. I have found instructions (in this forum) on how to start Notes in basic mode on a Mac (the suggestion was this might solve the issue), but this would not be a long term solution for her as she does not have that level of expertise to always be doing that.

Subject: More info needed:

  • Is it specific to wireless, or wired as well?

  • Is the problem specific to Domino server connections, or it happens to all network connections in the Notes app, like Sametime, Activities, Embedded Browser, …?

  • Does the switch to Basic client mode solve or help with the issue?

Subject: solved

Switch to basic mode didn’t solve it.

Downgrade back to Notes 7 did.

Subject: Further solved

We got the person in question an iPad, and put her mail and calendar on there through Traveller.
