Client-Based Archiving - multi-user workstation

We have client-based archiving, via a policy document, that forces local archiving. My question is this. If you have a shared workstation (not roaming users) and it is archiving time, and I am logged on, does it archive just my mail or everyone who has a local workstation?

How does archiving know which mail file to archive?

Only the current user will be affected; the current location document determines the user’s mailfile location.

I called support and here is what I found.

When you authenticate with the policy server it downloads the policy into the local address book into the $Policies view. There are known problems with having more than one user sharing a PC that is not a multi-user install in that the policies don’t seem to get updated. IBM recommends that all shared PCs be multi-user installs so that they do not share an address book. It seems that the once a day when you authenticate with the policy server it checks to see if you have all of your policies and that they are up-to-date. If the policy does not update you can do the following:

  1. Make sure that the user is authenticating with the policy server.

  2. Change the policy name, add a space or something that will make it think that the policy has changed.

  3. Remove the Address Book Preferences

  4. Edit the Location document, and from the Action menu, choose Advanced | Set Update Flag.

Once policies are working, it is true that if you are working on the PC at the time that archiving is scheduled, it will create the local archive on your PC.
