Hello everybody, maybe somebody can help me. IBM provides one language pack for the domino server in japanese and 2 in chinese.First japanese : which “set of letters” is this ? A colleague guessed it has to be Katakana by having a look at the mailtemplate.
Is this true ? We would like to provide some stuff in “Kanji”, but nobody here knows if there are big differences, or if Kanji is only an extension of Katakana…
Second : chinese . Until now I learned that “traditional” is the language of Taiwan and “Simplified” is of the “other” China.
But my problem is, that we want to provide something in “Mandarin”, and my chinese colleague has never heard of it.
Can somebody help me ? are there Mailtemplates for “Kanji” and “Mandarin” ? Or can we forget it ?
I know the mainland of china uses Simplified Chinese (Mandarian). Taiwan and Hongkong use traditional chinese (for written chinese) a lot, but some of them speak Mandarian too.
If your target is for Taiwan and Hongkong, choose traditional chinese, otehrwise, choose Mandarian.
I would like to correct what you said in your former email:
In mainland of China, we mainly use Simplified Chinese, but some people use traditional chinese a lot for Chinese Classic Literature. For all those who go to school(starting from middle school), we also learn Traditional Chinese, and I think I know Traditional chinese characters pretty good.
But when you speak chinese, it does not matter wheather it’s Simplified or Traditional as we pronounce them the same way.
Thank you, I think fun is not exactly the correct word… :)But now I understand a little bit more why my chinese colleague claims to be “not so good in chinese”.
