Chicken and egg - how do I get back in to server?

Hello

Please forgive my lack of knowledge of Domino system administration but…

I upgraded my client and server from D5 to D6.

Server and client run on the same machine and I have the administration client installed too.

Problem is that when I try to log in to the server it says that the server does not contain a certificate capable of identfying me, or something to that effect anyway.

Even worse, I have no other ID’s to get on to this server. In total I have the server.id, the cert.id and the user id that the server no longer recognises.

So how do I create a new user since I do not have an ID that I can attach to the server with? Notes won’t let me user the server id to attach to the server so it seems that unless I can find a way to create a new user or find some other workaround (is there any way to cross certify the id that has stopped working?), I’m cactus.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Andrew

what exactly is the error message when you try to login?Assumingly your “certificate” has expired (every Notes ID has a defined length of validity - in time - which you can of course modify when registering). Apart from that, if you have not implemented a consistent ACL, it is possible to shut down your Domino Server and add another person to the admin group and recertify your user.id.

In your case i can not tell if it works, cause you apparently have no other user. I would try to bring down the server, add manually a new user and give it manager rights on names.nsf. Then try to login with that user and recertify your admin.
