Checkbox fields print too light

Hello:

We’ve had this problem for years. I’ve searched this forum, but it appears that no one else has the same problem, which leads me to wonder if there’s a simple solution that I’m not aware of.

The probem, for us, is that fields of type “checkbox” appear as nice, dark checkmarks on the screen. However, when printed, they appear as light checkboxes win an “X” in them.

We use inkjet printers primarily. On the original copy, if its printed at the “best” quality setting, the checkbox is dark enough I guess. But, after its been photocopied it almost disappears.

Is there any way to make checkbox type fields print darker? I’ve tried printing them in different fonts and bold, of course, with no luck.

Thanks for considering our concern,

Mark

does the field need to print as the actual checkbox? if not you could add a computedfordisplay field to show the field value in a different format (text?). Use hide/whens to manipulate when each field is displayed. most people do this as a standard practice to save on ink.

Hi Paul:

Thank you for your response.

I’m not sure I completely understand what you’re saying – don’t see what “computedfordisplay” has to do with printing for example.

We use hide/whens a lot to save on ink as well.

We use check boxes when we want users to be able to select multiple values (vs. radio buttons when only one value can be selected) and when we want all available values to appear on the printed report, so that the reader of the printed copy can see the entire list of values.

Bottom line though, I’m interpreting what you’re saying to mean that we’d have to develop a work around – there isn’t any way to make checkboxes print darker.

no way that I know of but I do understand exactly what your problem is. What I was suggesting was to just display the chosen values as text rather that displaying the checkbox. And yes, it would be a workaround of sorts.
