Chat Window Tab - Previous Chats on Restart

Have a colleague indicate Sametime starts on Startup and a Chat Window appears with tabs for previous chats. Appears to be anyone he has chatted with over the last month.

Is this related to saved chats?

Yes, as a matter of fact that is the new Persistent chat feature.

If users don't want to see the old chats, the need to close them in the small X just right on the contact, instead of the Big standard X to close a window.

You can also disable Persistent Chat feature if you would like. Please refer to the following link:

Hi Michael,

Chats, or 'conversations' will load when Sametime rich clients are started. If you do not want this behavior, then, close each chat out with the 'x' prior to ending the client. Doing this will prevent the earlier conversations from loading.

This is all working as designed, but, it's certainly good to understand how this works, and thanks for asking.

I understand how it is supposed to work.

What I am saying is chats do not reappear on startup for me if I close via the Big X (Chat Window - Not individual chats).

I suppose he could have some sort of corruption. Similar to Domino Client Cache.NDK or Desktop file.

That's interesting,

1) Are you using an 11 version client?

2) Are there any client differences between you and that of whom explains that conversations are loading at startup?

3) Your running tabbed using the Rich clients, correct?

4) Are you the only one with this scenario that conversations don't load?

5) Do you have STProxy in your environment?

What makes conversations / persitence work; Community Chat logger (Relax is configured in stconfig.nsf) grabs & sends the chat to MongoDB. Mongo Convo-map service then provides what is displayed back to the client. If you wanted to open a Support Case with us, we will hone in on affected user(s) and Mongo behavior. We would need stdiags with Trace enabled which we will guide you.

Be sure to use tabbed chats or you will see behavior whereas all your previous chats that were not closed with the X will pop up in individual windows. Having persistent chat enabled on the server and not using tabbed chats is not recommended.

Weird. They deselected "Save opened chats across sessions" and all is working now.

I have that selected and all works for me. I suspect it some sort of corruption or issues with previous upgrades.

We are setting up a new Sametime Server based upon the current release. We will transfer everyone to the new server after everything is setup, including Meetings.

Most people would like persistent chat.

No-one wants to have to remember to click each individual tab to prevent the whole lot reappearing the day after.

In a meeting, start your Notes Client, all your history in all its glory pops up for everyone to see. They should not all reappear 24 hours later without warning.
