Can't reach NSF external directory via LDAP

Hi
I created a “names2.nsf” database from the public address book template, then configured it in the directory assistance to make it available to LDAP Clients.
I can see it in the available address books in the Notes clients, the LDAP task doesn’t seem to actually use it even though, when the task starts, I can see in the server console:

11/05/2025 16:20:54 LDAP Server: Serving directory names.nsf in the <mydomain.com> Internet domain
11/05/2025 16:20:54 LDAP Server: Serving directory names2.nsf in the <mydomain.com> Internet domain

The DA is configured like:

Domain type: Domino
Domain name: External
Company name:
Make this domain available to: both LDAP Clients and Notes Clients & Internet Authentication/Authorization
Enabled: Yes

Naming context has six * and Enabled: Yes, Trusted for credentials: Yes

Replica1:
Domino Directory Filename: names2.nsf
Enabled: Yes

I tried pasting a registered Notes user from another org in the names2.nsf database, manually creating a new Person document on a different organization, and a Person document in the same organization as the names.nsf. Can’t see any of these via LDAP.

names2.nsf was FT indexed. I tried both with anonymous and authenticated access.

I assume I am missing something…

Check your da configuration with “show xdir” on domino console, first and verify you do have both directories (names + names2.nsf, sample:
1 DOMAININ Primary-Notes Notes & LDAP names.nsf
2 EXTERNAL Secondary-Notes Notes & LDAP names2.nsf

if not, issue show xdir reload

Hi

Hope you are doing well

To check if Secondary Directory is active, you can check by executing below command

“Show Xdir”

If the secondary directory not active then open Directory assistance and disable/ enable the Directory assistance Document and recheck with “Show xdir” command.

if it still fail to update, please run below command to reload the Directory assistance

“show xdir reload”

Once done please recheck status with “show xdir”

I hope the above information will help in resolving your concern.

Thank you

My bad.

I’m using Softerra LDAP Browser which doesn’t show the external directory on the first view. However, when searching, I can also find external directory entries!

Everything was correct then!
Thank you for your replies!
