I have a situation whereas I’ve had to restore some mail files and grab the mail for a couple of missing days. The problem is I cannot access a few of them that are from tape, tho I can access the same mail file that is currently on the server, the same one backed up just a few days prior.
I am setup as administrator, I am manager on the database and I am in full access administration.
Are you being prompted to do a consistancy check? Often times Domino will complain when a file has been moved or modified at the OS level and you will need to do a “load fixup mail\file.nsf” to get past that.
Are you getting a different error message when trying to open those files?

I just tried fixup. It never prompted me to do so though. Same result. “You are not authorized to perform that operation” I can’t change the ACL either, same message. I even tried signing the database with my ID thinking that might help but to no avail.
Strange that out of 300 mailfiles, I have 5 or 6 that I can’t open. Unfortunately, one of these is the CEO’s…

I’m going to assume that your users have Manager access to their mail files. You’d be amazed what users will change when given the chance.
After this is over, consider testing/implementing a maximum access of Editor.
Do you have Full Administration Rights to any server? If so, you can put the mail file(s) there and view them with that access.
Not quite as easy, but you can also write a LotusScript agent to modify the ACLs accordingly, make sure it is signed by something that has access to all mail files, usually a server.id.

The one important detail that I never heard mentioned was whether you were restoring them to the server. If they are not being put somewhere in the DATA directory on the server you may be locked out. If they ARE on the server, full access admin should get you in.
