I ever read, you need to set quota when the mailbox size is still below it’s quota, otherwise it is useless.
I tried to set quota 80 MB for a mailbox with size 50 MB.
after that, the mailbox size just increasing to 1 GB.
Surprisingly, the user is still happily sending and receiving email.
Also, another inconsistency:
sometimes user can archive and compact their mailbox when they are over quota. But some other are already get stuck, and I need to release their quota first, let them archive and compact, and then set the quota back.
I just begin to think that this is one of bug in R6.
For your case,
Maybe you want to consider using Quota enforcement
(Check from admin help with topic: Detecting when a mail file exceeds its quota).
And also from Configuration doc, Router/SMTP - Restrictions and Controls - Delivery Controls, set the quota controls.
We don’t set it per message, because user will get annoyed, and if vip user get annoyed, they will make noise to your boss, and your boss will come to you.
How long will Lotus send over quota notification when your mailbox size has exceeded the quota…? No limitation?
But your user should know if they received one notification, means one of their email has not been delivered, therefore, they should settle their problem immediately.
Non Deliver to originator - The Router stops delivering new messages to the mail file and returns a nondelivery message to the sender reporting that the message could not be delivered because the intended recipient’s mail file was full.
I set per message because it is the one of company’s policies and like you said it’s come to inbox no limit.
