Cannot delete attachments using 8.5 client

After upgrading from the 8.0.1 client to 8.5 (Revision 20081211.1925/german) i cannot delete attachments any more.

On a right-click on the attachment icon i see only the options “Save…” and “Save all…”. The other options “Save and delete (all)…” and “Delete (all)…” are grayed out.

The mail template is 8.5, the server is 8.0. Could that be the issue?

Any hints would be very appreciated.

Thank you

Klaus

Subject: Preview mode?

Is the mail in the preview pane or has it been fully opened? I get the same symptoms but only when the mail is in the preview pane (which I presume may be ‘expected behaviour’).

Cheers

Subject: Problem occurs when mail is open for reading

In “Preview mode” the deleting of attachments never worked (by design AFAIK).

So my question is related to the “Opened mode”, although i should have stated that …

Attachment problem with8.5 Revision 20081211.1925

this is a deliberate change in the way we place attachment based on customer feedback (Created by To Hung Sze on 01/22/2009)

Subject: Workaround until SPR is solved

Thank you for the hint. I already found part of this discussion using the “Search” function but i registered it only as a “attachment copy and paste” problem. My fault :frowning:

Putting the document into edit mode will do the trick to enable the deletion of the attachment (thanks to Michael A Kudla!), but in the german version CTRL-E will do only a search & replace (Suchen & _E_rsetzen). So you have to double click on the opened document.

Anyway, thanks for your kind support

Subject: This is even word in iNotes 8.5…

In iNotes not only is there no delete attachment function when you open an e-mail, when you put the e-mail into edit mode to delete the attachment, the only save option is Save as Draft! If you save your change, you STILL have the original e-mail in your inbox WITH the attachment and you now have a copy of the message in your drafts folder. to complete the cycle, you’d then have to delete the original e-mail and move your ‘draft’ document to the folder you originally wanted it in (which could be right BACK to the inbox!!!)

for quota management this is a fiasco! there needs to be a delete function without opening the document in EDIT mode! Save and Delete on right click and a trashcan icon in the attachments section would be perfect (and obvious for the users, too…)

Thanks

Subject: Not as bad as feared (and that should have been ‘worse’ not ‘word’ in prior post)

experimentation outside of the obvious provided a workable solution.

click on the edit icon

delete the attachment

click save as draft

(document is now in inbox and draft folder)

Problems with this is that the user has to understand that drafts folder is a link to original document and deleting the memo from the drafts folder will delete the e-mail completely! user therefore must remember to use ‘remove from folder’ so they don’t have a polluted drafts folder…

kluge-solution, but the only one we have for day 1…

Subject: Still not fixed…is Lotus Development listening?

iNotes still does not allow “Save & Delete” of messages in the sent folder (or messages you have sent and filed in a folder). Lotus, when are you going to fix this!!!??? It is very difficult to maintain quotas when you cannot delete attachments.

Please look into this issue! It’s been 3 years!
