CANNOT access Local DB but CAN access Server DB... why?

Hello,I just got this Lotus Domino book on web programming and i’m trying to get my first example to work.

This is my issue:

I’ve created a DB and entered ‘local’ as a server. The ACL ‘default’ access is Editor (testing purposes…). I’ve created a ‘page’ that contains a link to a form and a link to a view. When i try to preview the ‘page’, i get an HTTP 404 error.

When I go to look in the Domino server panel, i see this error:

HTTP Web Server: Lotus Notes Exception - File does not exit [/chapter2.nsf/Home?OpenPage]

But…

I’ve also created the database and use ‘Home’ as a server, that’s my Domino server. The ACL ‘default’ access is ‘No Access’ and i’ve created an ‘Anonymous’ access. When i try to preview the ‘page’, everything works OK! I get a login prompt the asks me for a username and password and that’s it.

Why is it that my local copy doesnt see this simple database and the server copy does?

In the book, it says:

"

You’re now ready to test the application. Only one step is left to prepare for testing. Domino Designer’s Web Preview server does not know how to prompt users for a login name and password, but it does enforce Domino’s rules that control who can use an application. Without a login prompt, however, the Web preview server considers all users to be anoymous. The default for Domino application. however, is to disallow anonymous access, so this setting must be changed before you use the Web preview server.

To do so

Choose File->Database->Access Control. The ACL dialog appears

Select default and select Editor in the Access field.

"

Is the book wrong, or am i doing something wrong?

Please help

Marco,

The local copy doesn’t work because your Notes client doesn’t have an http daemon. Your Domino server log is indicating that the SERVER doesn’t have that file. So the log is correct.

You might want to see if you can set up Domino Offline Services (DOLS) to see if you can get your local db to work. We use DOLS to give our DWA users offline access to webmail. It might work with your app as well.
