In the near future we are planning to migrate our Domino R5 Mail server to R6.5 However the clients will still remain under R5 Are there any problems/issues when running Domino R6.5 with R5 Notes clients?

We are currently running with r651 servers and r511/r510 clients and mail files with no problems.
One note on upgradeing though. Do the administration server and client 1st.

I disagree with the other posting. Yes. You can use R4 and R5 clients with an R6 server. That is part of Lotus’ recommended sequence – upgrade servers first. You will encounter problems using some system databases which use R6 code (script/@functions). As long as you do not add R6 features to your apps and do not upgrade mail files to the new template, users will work perfectly well.
Note: there are some system databases which use new features. For example, replication docs in the log cannot be read with an R5 client. Also, some documents in the NAB cannot be read. Your admins will need to use R6 most of the time. Developers should stay on R5 to avoid accidently implementing R6 features until users are upgraded.
