I have a domino server 6.0 installed on windows XP.I did not do something wrong, but after I do a very normal server restart, the server cannot start up. And the server console gave me the message:
Server existing:
can not open ID file.
I cannot understand this, because the “cert.id”,“server.id” and “admin.id” are just there physically, and the path of these ids in notes.ini is right. So I am confuesd.
Can somebody tell me why?

thanks. And somebody also tell me ,maybe the id file is corrupted. And after using a backup server.id to replace it , it will be ok.But i didn’t try it.
I also reinstalled the server like u.

A while ago, I installed a server on XP. Occasionally Domino would decide to reprogram the data directory parameter in the Notes.ini (e.g. from D:\Notes\Data to D:\Notes).
This obviously caused the server to misbehave. Perhaps you are getting similar problems ? Check your Notes.ini to see if anything has changed in there - i.e. the ServerKeyfile parameter value being changed.
I have no idea why this happened or what the solution is - except to use one of the recommended Operating Systems.

XP is not a supported OS for Domino, since it’s not a server OS. I’ve stayed far away from it, but I assume that the M$ licen$e agreement prevents you from using it as a server as well.
“because the “cert.id”,“server.id” and “admin.id” are just there”
The cert.id and admin.id should be removed from the server and stored in a secure location (and backup up redundantly); leaving them on the server is a security risk.
