Can Domino and Active Directory co-exist on the same box?

Happy New Year (to all who respect January 1).

I’m putting together a pilot scheme to test how Domino LDAP and Active Directory interact.

First question - can they co-exist on one box, or must I have two separate servers? First try (installed AD then Domino), has port conflicts. Can I simply change the Domino LDAP settings, or will that throw everything out? If other ports, are there any recognized alternate LDAP ports? I tried 3268 but AD has that one already also.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This presentation ID107: Getting Started With Active Directory Integration might give you a jump start.

Yes, Domino LDAP and AD can exist on the same server. You can configure Domino LDAP to use any available port. There are no “recognized alternate LDAP ports”. Well-known ports are registered at Service Name and Transport Protocol Port Number Registry.

To be excruciatingly correct, per the doc above, you can use 49152-65535, although I know of many who simply use 390. Remember to also change the configuration of your LDAP applications that wish to use the Domino LDAP server, to use the non-standard LDAP port.
