Can a R6.02CF1 client and R7 client reside on the same PC?

Can a R6 client and R7 client reside on the same PC?

It was a nightmare trying to get it to work with R6 and R6.5.

That is no problem at all.

Temporarily rename the R6 install directory before installing R7, then after R7 install, rename the R6 install directory back to what it originally was.

Starting Notes using

nlnotes.exe =C:\directory\notes.ini

you can have multiple clients of different versions running simultaneously. I have R5, R6, R6.5 and R7 clients installed on my PC, with several data directories for each version, and can run several different users on different versions at the same time.

Just make sure to copy notes.ini to the data directory, and change the directory line.

Hi Timothy,

yes it’s possible. The only limitation is, you can’t install both clients via the the setup routine. If you install 6.02CF1 first, R7 doesn’t install. What you can do is the following:

Install 6.02CF1 on your machine, then install R7 temporarily on another pc. After the R7 installation has finished, just copy over the program and data directory to your pc with the R6 client into a directory of your choice . Modify the notes.ini of the R7 installation to meet the new environment. Last but not least, make a shortcut to your Desktop or Startmenu for the R7 notes.exe.

Hope that helps

Thanks.

This used to be so easy. When I did consulting, I had R4.5, R4.6, and R5 on the same laptop.

I’ll give this a shot.
