Bleeding edge - 8.5 DAOS problem

We’re trying to give a resonably fast track to 8.5, one of the reasons being DAOS.This has been set up on a test server according to the administrator help, and is using the default settings in the server document.

I’ve mad a copy of my mail database on the server, properly enabled the database for DAOS, and compacted.

The object store does get populated with what I’ll assume are my attachments, and the physical file size of the database decreases accordingly.

When I try to open one of the attachments that I know is in DAOS space with either 8.5, 8.0.2, or 7.0.3 clients, I receive the error message “Document attachment is invalid: Could not save to file C:\DOCUME~1..\LOCALS~1\Temp\Notes681D77<filename>”.

I’ll probably contact support about this as well, but wondering if anyone else has run across this yet?

Thanks!

Subject: Some things to try

Run “Tell DAOSMgr ListNLO -o missingnlos.txt MISSING <db.nsf>”, where <db.nsf> is the file you are working with. The text file should contain a list of any missing NLOs. Do you have anything listed?

It would also be helpful to see the results of running “Tell DAOSMgr Status <db.nsf>” and “Tell DAOSMgr Status Catalog”.

Subject: All appears nominal

Thanks Chad.

Tried all of these.

The missingnlos.txt file was empty and the console reported “01/07/2009 12:22:49 PM DAOSMGR: ListNLO completed - 0 entries processed”.

Other two commands look normal to me:

tel daosmgr status mail\a4038.nsf

01/07/2009 12:24:04 PM DAOSMGR: Status mail\a4038.nsf started

01/07/2009 12:24:04 PM DAOS database status:

tel daosmgr status catalog

01/07/2009 12:24:29 PM DAOSMGR: Status CATALOG started

01/07/2009 12:24:29 PM DAOSMGR: Status CATALOG completed

I did have one other person (admin) open one of the attachments in question, and he had no errors. I’m going to try a second person and see what their results are.

Subject: Interesting results

My second colleague was unable to open the attachments as well. My next instinct was to restart the Domino server, which has proven to be the solution to the problem.Perhaps the method I used to set up DAOS initially was part of the problem.

Server was started right after 8.5 install.

I noticed DAOSMGR attempt to start, indicating it wasn’t configured, and shut itself down.

I configured DAOS in the server document.

I ran “load DAOSMGR” from the server console.

DAOS had been running in this state until the server restart.

Subject: Can you open any attachments?

If not, check the permissions on the directory in your Windows profile and compare them to the user who can open the attachments.
