Hello all. I love this forum, and to be quite honest, it has saved my butt on several occasions. Hopefully, someone can help me again. I did a search, but didn’t see any posts that seemed to fit the problem my organization having.
I recently upgraded our Domino Domain (servers & clients) from 5.0.11 to 6.5.5 and everything went quite smoothly, with the exception of one strange problem.
I have a user that was regularly corresponding with a gentleman in El Salvador before the upgrade. However, ever since, all the messages he receives from us have a blank message body.
When he responds, there is no problem with his email, and sure enough the text of the message we sent him is completely gone.
I’m a bit puzzled with this one. On one hand it sounds like a problem on our end, simply due to the timing – started happening right after our upgrade. But then again, I would think that there would be many more occurrences if it was our problem – not just limited to one individual.
To be clear, any messages sent to this individual from our domain (replies and new messages) arrive at his end with a blank body. All that is present is a couple carriage returns.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Subject: RE: Blank message body received when sending to one internet recipient
No problems sending mail anywhere else. Yahoo, Hotmail, whatever.
I’ve been working with this gentleman all morning, and sure enough Mike was dead on. He’s using Outlook Express, and running McAffee’s SpamKiller on his PC.
It turns out that SpamKiller modifies the header of a Lotus Notes message differently than it does an email originating from another system. It basically renders the body of the message undisplayable in Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird. The text of the body is still in the source, but the client cannot display it due to the header modifications.
McAffee claims that Lotus Notes is not RFC Compliant, however it sure looks as though that is not the case.
