Blackberry Server

Hello,I have set up a Lotus Blackberry Enterprise Server.

My problem is I would like to know what is technical happening when sending a mail to a Blackberry Device. I am disturbed, since I can not find any documentation on this. How does the Blackberry Server know where to send the mail. I did not configure anything beside creating a user account.

Is this all configured when the Blackberry device is activated ? How does the Blackberry Device find my server.

Has anybody seen any documentation ? Pls do not guide me to Blackberry homepage. I have read all on it without success. Pls help.

CU Martin

When you register a user, in Blackberry, it creates a profile document, and a state database for the user. When an email is sent to the user, the state database, in conjunction with the user’s home mail server, delivers the message to the BB device. If you look at your Domion BES server, you’ll find the state databases listed on the server, for each user.

Thanx, but how does the BES sent the mail to the Blachberry ? How does he find the Provider and the specific Blackberry device?

I know you didn’t want a doc from the BlackBerry site but the workflows section of this document specifically describes how it gets to the BlackBerry:

Hi,I have already read this one.

Perhaps my question is so trivial for you, but: In Point 6 of the message workflow they write: The Black Berry Router sends the first portion of the message … which verifies that the PIN belongs to a valid BlackBerry device registered on the wireless Network.

Where do I enter this PIN. I cannot see anywhere in the manager to enter a PIN ? I have to admit that 'til now I do not have a Blackberry device to test. So perhaps the PIN is associated with the user when he connects to the server the first time ???

Thanx for your help Martin

Hi Martin, that PIN number is associated with the device. Each device has it’s own unique PIN. You don’t enter the PIN, once the user is added to the BES server and connects via the desktop manager, the PIN from the device is now associated with that user.

The user receives a blackberry

You open the Blackberry Admin client and add that user.

The user then cradles the device, selects the BES server.

The Desktop Manager and BES server talk to one another regarding the name PIN and Notes mail file.

The Bes server creates a STATE DB to allow synchronization.

That’s pretty much it

Hi,thanx so much that is exactly what I wanted to know. Just one more question if you allow. How does the device find his Blackberry Server ???

Subject: RE: Blackberry Server

Once you connect the device to the desktop manager, the configurations ask which server to connect. There you select the BES server.
