Blackberry Re-Activation Problems with BES and State databases

We got a strange one here and Vodafone blackberry support doesn’t seem to be able to help at all, but they not really given me many suggestions so I thought I’d see if anyW2K, Domino 6.5.4 blackberry BES 4.0. 8 Users setup 5 with Siemens SK65 and 3 with 7100v, everything worked and everything synchronised for a few months fine. Then one users mail stopped synchronising with their 7100v, after trying a few things Vodafone said I should wipe the handset and remove the user from the BES and then put them on from a fresh. I did this and all started working again, but only for about a day then it went bad again, email synchronisation stopped. I performed the same process again of removing the user and wiping the handset and putting them back on, but this time it would not take. It times-out after saying Retrying several times when I try to do it wirelessly and just doesn’t do it when I wire it up to the users PC. While it was wired up and not activating I tried clicking on email synchronisation in the PIM and got the following message back.

“The Blackberry State Database cannot be opened on the server. Email synchronization cannot continue.”

Don’t know if this means anything to anyone, but I’ve checked and no state database exists for this user, so I’m guessing that the BES or Domino is having trouble creating it.

I’ve tried wiping the handheld several times, clearing the BES statistics and removing the user from the BES and re-registering the user with the BES a number of times. I’ve tried registering another on the BES and activating the Blackberry for them, but this didn’t work either which leads me to believe that there is a problem with he BES that won’t allow any more users to be created. I’ve tried activating the same SIM with a different handset with no better results.

In the BES folder, as well as having the state folder, I’ve got two .nsf databases BlackBerryProfiles.nsf and BBDummyMailbox.nsf, the latter is set as a template.

Not sure where to go from here, any help would be great.

Ross

P.S. I think there should be a blackberry category for the forum.

Okay, got the user going again.

Got into the BlackBerryProfiles.nsf (using the server id, due to nothing else having access!!!) and despite all the warnings, deleted the users profile document.

This has solved the problem and I’ve been able to re-activate the user.

Ross,

in order to get access to the Profiles database normally you would need to create a new group in the Domino Directory called ‘BlackBerryAdmins’ and add your admins that needs access to that group.

Ross,

further to my other post, the reason why you ended up with this strange problem seems to be also related to nobody having access to the Profiles database. The Domino account that was used to delete the user is usually also used to remove the account document from the Profiles database. Meaning that it probably did have access to the SQL database to remove the user from there but couldn’t delete it from the Profiles database.

As said verify that the group ‘BlackBerryAdmins’ was created and that all your admins are in the group (if in doubt you might want to nest LocalDomainAdmins there).
