We have upgraded the BES server from 2.2 to 4.0 with all migrations in place currently working. We have also installed a new Blackberry unit with 4.0 on board which worked.
However when we attemped to hang another Domino domain from the original server the PDA tried to authenticate but just timed out.
Directory assistance is operational, cross certified, adjacent docs and connection docs in place as well.
The RIM people tried to help but it seemed this was a bit new to them as well.

You don’t have any errors in the log ? I’ve got some issues because the dbs from RIM have to be signed with an admin ID (My install documentation didn’t mention it, but when I signed the dbs all works fine)

the problem and solution were down stream. symantec was set to content scan using a rule called “sex.” this rule was blocking the etp.dat email sent to the users mail file, scanned by the BES server and then deleted to the users trash for BB authentication. This is usually tranparent as the etp.dat email comes and goes before it is noticed. probably the hash in the etp.dat had something in it symantec thought related to sex. content scanning rears it’s ugly head again. but really the BES 4.0 works better than any BES serever I’ve ever know. all the user really needs to cradle for now is to charge or back up. oh and they will need version 2.7a or 4.0 depending upon model to work with BES 4.0
