For more than two years we have been using successfully the barcode-qr-code-scanner component version 2.0.5 from HCL marketplace https://marketplace.hclvoltmx.com/items/barcodeqr-code-scanner on iOS devices.
We tested on iOS 16 => here it is working fine
We tested on Android 13 and 14 => working fine
We tested on iOS 17.0.3 and latest 17.3.1: The component is not recognizing any code any longer
Error Details:
In principal, the scanner can be launched successfully, the camera is active, but when pointing to any of the supported code (barcode, qr-code, data matrix ...) no code is detected and therefore no scanning result is delivered. It just looks idle.
Does anyone know what can be the cause or the solution?
Thanks in advance.
Markus
Hi Markus,
This specific QR code scanner has been descoped; we have a similar scanner MLKit Barcode/QR Scanner (MLKit Barcode/QR Scanner | HCL Marketplace (hclvoltmx.com)). Can you please give a try.
Thanks,
Gaurab
Thank your for the response. We are still using HCL Quantum Visualizer 9.2.306. Migrating to VoltMX 9.5 is ongoing will take some more months. Is this new component also working with Visualizer 9.2.306?
We are close to the app rollout and cannot quickly exchange our component. An exchange of the component has to be developed during a regular development sprint and tested thoroughly.
Therefore we need a quick solution/fix for this issue. I already opened a ticket at the support portal.
Dear Markus,
This MLKit scanner is not that way new, and it works with Iris. We are very sorry to say that we stopped support for Barcode/QR Code Scanner.
Thanks,
Gaurab
hi @Gaurab Banerjee ,
this is a very inconvenient situation for us! We offered this barcode/qr-code feature to our business representatives and guaranteed the operability. Now we had to admit that we cannot provide a bug fix because the marketplace product is no longer supported.
Please discuss these 4 topics/questions internally and give me a reliable statement about it for our future handling with markeplace components:
1. Was there any user information before termination that I missed about stopping the support of the component?
2. How can we be sure, that you do not descope the MLKit scanner after we have implemented the component in our app? What is the guaranteed life of this component / how long is it supported by HCL?
3. How can you ensure that we got all information about component life cycle events like feature/version availability, infos about detected bugs, termination etc.?
4. Is the MLKit scanner also compatible with HCL Quantum Vis 9.2.306?
Thanks in advance for your contribution.
Markus
Hi @Markus Dormann
We understand the predicament and will discuss this further internally. However,
1. The HCL marketplace assets are developed and maintained for HCL Volt MX platform, not Quantum. Some of the assets continuing to work on the Quantum platform is incidental, not deliberate.
2. All assets hosted on Marketplace are intended to be available as-is and are community-maintained. They are not covered by HCL Support agreements as they are not part of the Volt MX product.
They are intended to be accelerators for development and samples for learning. However, any critical assets that are reported broken due to any OS/external updates or internal changes will be updated by HCL Marketplace team if the base versions were originally internally developed. These updates are (generally) however, only for - as stated in #1 - for Volt MX platform and not Quantum.
3. Component update/deletion notifications are not implemented as part of current marketplace. It is in our roadmap.
4. MLKit was developed for use with Volt Iris
Can you please try v2.0 of
https://marketplace.hclvoltmx.com/items/legacy-barcodeqr-scanner
which contains an updated NFI compared to
https://marketplace.hclvoltmx.com/items/barcodeqr-code-scanner
and let us know if it works for you? It is basically as upgraded version of the component you are currently using. It works for Quantum 9.2/9.5 as well.
If it does not work, we will see what can be done to unblock you.
Cheers!

@Gaurab Banerjee FYR
hi Souvik,
thank you for your elaborate response and explanations.
We will check the legacy component as interim solution as soon as we can access the cloud account and are able to download it.
See you on Monday at our guidance session.
