Avaya Messaging - VM to Notes Inbox without DUCS

Hi everyone-

We recently installed a new IP Phone system (Avaya 8710) with Avaya Modular Messaging. When we attended a product demo, we were shown a Notes Inbox to which voice messages were sent, including an integrated voice player (vs. an attached wav file). Reality has set in, and we have discovered that using Avaya MM without a Domino server as the message store is not really working as was demonstrated.

I am anxious to roll out “VM to the inbox” to my users, but have encountered a major delay in the time it takes to open the “Voice Mail Inbox” (90 seconds!). Have had packet sniffers on my network, a tier 4 ticket open with Avaya, and no resolution as of yet. Avaya says “it’s working as designed” (figures) SO…

My question is this. Knowing that it’s not the best practice to modify the Notes Mail template, I wondered if anyone out there (familiar with Mod Messaging) had considered or tried to add the Avaya Voice Mail template code into the Notes Mail template? I need to somehow find a way to either fix my speed problem in opening the secondary mailbox, or a way to get VM to the Notes Inbox and have it include the voice player in the message.

I did find a workaround using replication of an IMAP voice mailbox with my Notes mailbox, but that eliminates the privacy of listening to messages on the phone vs. through my PC speakers. The integrated voice player is what delivers the privacy…so it’s what I would prefer to have available for my users.

I’m not sure if switching to DUCS is an option at this point in time…so I’m hoping for some insight on the Notes/Domino side of things. My Domino server is running 6.5.5 on Win2K server.

I look forward to comments and or/suggestions!

Thanks
