Hello,We have a document database (doclbw6.ntf) which has 300Mb worth of documents saved by users via a form. So far every employee has had editor access to whole DB. Now I wan’t employees to have only readers access to the DB. Problem is that there’s few docs in the DB that should be editable to a person or two. So if I set all users access to ‘reader’ in ACL can I still give one user editor access to one document? (not the whole DB). If this is possible how it is done?
Thanks

Miq,
Make the default access = Reader. Then make your special user an Editor. If you want this user to only edit certain docs, then you’ll have to find a programmatic way to distinguish between this doc and other docs …
-
You could make him an AUTHOR instead of EDITOR and set an Author Names field in this one doc
-
You could have a flag set on certain docs that lets this user edit those. Without the flag, a PostOpen event could prevent edit mode.
Note that #1 is real security, but #2 is just ‘security of convenience’, it won’t prevent hacking.

Hi… The ACL will apply to all the documents created with a particular form. So if you want to give editor access to some docs only then better keep the editable part in the controlled access section in the document. This way only selected users will be able to access the editable part of the document.
