As of today, my browsers can't find localhost. What happened?

I’ve been playing around with xpages for the past 3 weeks using my localhost to preview my work in either IE or Firefox. Today, I tried to open an xpage (any xpage) and neither browser can find localhost. What could have changed? IE says page cannot be displayed, cannot find server or dns error. And Firefox waits for www.localhost.com for a minute, then returns page load error, connection interrupted. This is driving me crazy! Too much time lost already… any ideas?

Thanks.

Subject: hosts file

I know this is simplistic but has anything happened to your hosts file? Should have at least one entry for localhost:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Subject: Thanks for the responses…

Nothing changed in my host file, but I do have that error in my log. So, I guess I need to deinstall avg according to your link.

Thanks again!

Subject: Any errors in Log.nsf?

Check your “Log.nsf” for errors such as:

HTTP Server: Error - Unable to Bind port 80, port may be in use or user needs net_privaddr privilege

I’ve seen client-side Anti-virus/Firewall software cause similar problems, have a look at this thread.

Subject: Could be Skype

I had same problem and found a post in 6/7 forum saying to look at Skype. I quit Skype and all was good
