We are considering consolidating from NT servers onto PSeries / AIX.
I am worried about the level of knowledge and support in the general community as well as at Lotus. I have used Domino for AS/400 before and found release dates way behind Windows, especially MTUs.
At the moment it is a toss up between Linux and AIX, I sense a growing pool of Linux users but not AIX, am I wrong ?

The answer is… many of the largest organizations in the world run Domino/AIX on pSeries (and older RS/6000s). I consult many fortune 500 companies that require server consolidation, availability, etc. The pSeries is an excellent, scalable option for them. Linux users can also take advantage of pSeries hardware for testing/appdev and/or running production servers. In short, one must split pSeries and AIX while also understanding the benefits together. DLPARs give organizations the option of running Linux variants and AIX on the same pSeries machine. It is quite common for me to consolidate 50+ Domino/Intel servers to a small # of pSeries machines. It all depends on budgets, requirements, etc… In short, there are many platform options for all sorts of customers. You might not hear as much re: Domino/AIX postings because the # of Domino/Windows admins far outweigh the # of AIX ones… wonder why? … could it have anything to with the fact that pSeries solutions consolidate server/admin loads? Fewer servers, etc… AND no I don’t work for IBM. Have a great New Year!

Thanks, we are also looking at consolidation onto Intel servers using VMWare. This is possibly easier than PSeries, possibly not !
