Archiving R5 mail to a R6 server

Archives - don’t you just love 'em?I’m in the middle of updating all our servers to R6 and I’ve just updated our dedicated archive server. Shortly afterwards I’ve had a couple of calls when users try to archive their documents. The steps are:-

1.) User has R5 client and mail template and existing R5 archive (that did work before upgrade)

2.) User clicks on ‘Archive selected documents’ and receives error ‘Archive Operation failed - do you want to modify the archive settings’. Checking the settings shows all is well but still the process fails. Saying No gives the error ‘No Resume’

3.) In the log on the server there’s the following weird message

11/06/2003 14:43:16 Database tmparchv.nsf created by ‘Users Name’

11/06/2003 14:43:17 Database tmparchv.nsf deleted by ‘Users Name’

I’m a little stumped by this - I can archive fine using a R5 client and it’s not effecting all users all I’d have have a few more calls…

Anyone any ideas?

I’m running into the same problem. One user is having archiving problems. All users at this site are using 5.0.12 clients and the iNotes5 mail template on a Domino 6.0.1 CF1 server. Only this one user gets the “Archive Operation Failed” error. Other users can archive happily. (Archives are being manually triggered and stored locally.)

One person reported a possible link to the iNotes5 template:

So, I’ve tried changing this user over to the Mail R5 template with no change in the outcome.

Any ideas?

P.S. Oh, and I tried creating a new replica and archiving from that – no change.

I have the same problem, we have just upgraded the servers to R6 and mail files and client are R5.

I have been searching the R5 forum and one possible fix is to clear all the archive settings, close down the client and delete the file cache.dsk. It didn’t work for me, but you never know, it just might work for you.

If anyone finds a solution, it would be most appreciated.

Subject: Re: Archive Operation Failed

Hi

I’ve always found archiving in Rel 5 unreliable, inconsistent and cumbersome and was hoping for some inmprovement in version 6 but I’m still disappointed.

I get the above error if I archive a folder that contains approx 10,000 messages by selecting all messages - ‘Actions’ - ‘archive’ - ‘selected documents’, and again if I select approx 2500.

If I select them in chunks of say 1500 at a time and then ‘Actions’ - ‘archive’ - ‘selected documents’ it works OK. I’ve searched long for a solution unsuccessfully.

The problem I’m experiencing occurs using 6.03 client/erver and on both inotes5.ntf and inotes6.ntf templates.

I have started to have the same problem here with a Mac R6 client and an R5 server. The archiving works for a while - seems to archive the needed message, but then at the end gives an error that the archiving could not be completed because of an error and then NO RESUME.
