Approve Revert Name Change?

Hello,

I have started a name change process for one of my users, changing the Commom Name. This was done last week or 2 weeks ago. The user is now saying that she doesn’t have rights to her mailfile. When I look at the Domino Directory her new name is in there, but when I look at her mailfile, her old name is still in the ACL.

I then went and looked at the Administration Request, Pending Administrator Approval and noticed that there is a task in there called - Approve Revert Name Change for this user. The request is coming from my administrative Domino server and not the Mail Server.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what it exactly means. If I approve it, will the New last names revert back to the old last name? Just a little confused, should I accept the Revert or decline it?

Thanks for your help,

Subject: Approve Revert Name Change …

This can happen if the renamed user has been unable to “accept the name change” within the time frame specified when the name was originally changed. Their is administration help on the topic… here is a clip from the text.

Rename person - name change ignored by user
If a user ignores a proposed name change, and does not accept or reject the name change, a series of administration requests are generated. These requests require the administrator’s attention and one requires the administrator’s approval. The sequence of requests is generated only when the name change is ignored by the user.

You should approve the request and wait for a day or so before attempting to rename that user again. Approving the revert request will restore the user’s person document back to the old names (prior to name change). You should be able to get more information from the Administration Client’s help text.

Subject: Does this just apply to Notes clients or iNotes as well?

Thank you for the response. Do this question get asked to just those who use the Notes Client, or will it be asked if they want to validate the name change for those who just use iNotes?

Thank you again?

Subject: iNotes is a slightly different case …

Most users running Note client version greater than 6.0 actually never know that they are “accepting the name change”. Name changes are automatically accepted (by default). The end user can change this option, and be allowed to accept or reject the name change. (see: File->Security->User Security Select the “Your Identity” tab and select the “Name Change” button. Section 2 of the dialog provides the option to automatically or manually approve or reject the name change). The purpose for “accepting the name change” is to allow the client to update the user’s ID file with the new name information.

Having said all of this on to the iNotes situation …

In iNotes, the only time the end user has an opportunity to update the ID file (stored in the Mail database) is when they either “sign” or “encrypt” a mail message. So in this case, an iNotes end user will “accept the name change” if they sign or encrypt a mail message within the time frame specified when the rename is started.

Renaming a Lotus iNotes user

You rename an IBM® Lotus® iNotes™ user who has an IBM® Lotus® Notes® ID (and a Notes certified public key located in their Person Document in the Domino Directory) the same way you rename a Notes user. However, in Lotus iNotes, after a rename has been initiated, users must access their Notes IDs to complete the process. Depending on whether the user’s mail file has an imported copy of their Notes ID, users can do one of two things to access their Notes ID, which will then complete the rename process:

User mail file has imported copy of Notes ID – If the user’s Lotus iNotes mail file contains an imported copy of their Notes ID, the user can either decrypt an encrypted message, or send an encrypted message to complete the rename process.

User mail file does not have an imported copy of Notes ID – If the user’s Lotus iNotes mail file does not contain an imported copy of their Notes ID, the user can either import one, which is required for using Lotus iNotes secure mail features, or can access the Notes ID using a Notes client. Doing either of these things completes the rename process.

Subject: Thank you for the explanation…

Thank you Eric for the explanation. I logged in as the user though iNotes and don’t have a Security option under preferences to import her ID. Not sure if it’s because she’s in the middle of a rename or what. But I will setup the client for her and access it that way.

Thanks again,

Subject: iNotes is a slightly different case …No more ID File

Hi Eric,

that sounds good, but after starting the Rename-Process there is no more ID - File in the Mail-File under iNotes.

I can not encrypt or decrypted mails even no more sign of mails.

Do you have any idea?
