Hi,
My company is planning to migrate from R7.0.2 to R8.5 in coming months. Can someone please guide that what will happen in below scenarios:
Scenario 1: Domino application Servers and Lotus Clients being upgraded to version R8.5
Scenario 2: Domino application Servers a upgraded to version R8.5 but Lotus Clients are on R7.0.2
Scenario 3: Domino mail Servers a upgraded to version R8.5 but Lotus Clients are on R7.0.2
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Amit
Subject: Your Scenarios won’t cause any issues…
We recommend that you upgrade servers first, then clients, then applications. By applications, we mean that you would wait for the clients to be upgraded before refreshing/replacing the the design of your applications (e.g., mail or address book). The reason for this order is that the server and client can execute commands from previous versions, but wouldn’t know what to do with a request from a future version. The server would not request something new of a client, but an updated application would.
Until everything (i.e., servers, clients and applications) are upgraded some new functionality will be missing. Which functionality depends on where it is implemented. For example, in order to recognize the ability to overlay calendars you will need to upgrade the client and mail application, but to gain the benefits of DAOS, you need only to upgrade the server.
