Application Health/Status page ideas?

I’m trying to design a webpage that will show the “health” of a specific app. So it will show the status of all the applications dependencies. It should ping servers that the app communicates with, test out servlets, verifies certain files are in certain places, certain Notes items are available, etc.

Java APIs to check that stuff are all pretty much done. I’m just trying to think of a good way to build the page. The page should be configurable for all the tests. For example if the app gets new requirements which force it to read another file from some server there should be a config doc or a set of config docs that can be added/edited so another test is added to the page.

Haven’t decided how I want to do the config stuff yet. Ideally I’d like each test case to have its own Doc. So a Doc would contain a title, test type, and a parameter. Don’t know if I can do that though. The DB that will have the config info already has tons of forms. So might be forced to just cram it all into one doc.

Biggest cloud I have is how to setup the actual Status page. Initially I thought to have hidden fields that grab the data from whatever config docs via @formula then have a “Get/Refresh Test” button that will run a Java agent that grabs the test case data from the hidden fields, runs the appropriate tests, and fill a HTML display field.

Then I thought clicking that refresh button could be annoying. The meat of the Java agent won’t change but maybe have it run on a webqueryopen? But then I need the Java agent to grab the data from the config docs since the @formula won’t fire before the agent runs, correct? Can never remember that order.

I’m just looking for any general ideas or any pointers from anyone thats done this before.
