AppendRTItem does not allow AddNewLine to work correctly on web

I am creating an email with Body as the Rich Text Item.

I use AppendRTItem to append another rich text item that contains a graphic into the Body field. I also have 4 tables I am adding to the Body with an Call rtBody.AddNewLine(1, True) between each table.

It works fine when the email is sent internally and viewed through a Notes Client. However, when sent to an outside internet address and viewed through an external email client, such as Earthlink, the AddNewLine call is not recognized.

When I remove the AppendRTItem call, the AddNewLine calls are recognized and the email looks correct in the external email client.

Should I append a
instead of the AddNewLine?

I am using Call rtBody.Update after the AppendRTItem as well as after each table is being created. Each AddNewLine is set to Call rtBody.AddNewLine(1, True).

Thanks!

Dan

Subject: AppendRTItem does not allow AddNewLine to work correctly on web

I looked at the email with the graphic and without a graphic and the only difference is that without the graphic, a
is placed between the tables and with the graphic, there is none…

Something in the conversion process to HTML where it sees a graphic and removes breaks?

Confused on this one…

Tried this:

  1. Created new RichTextStyle:

    Set htmlStyle = s.CreateRichTextStyle

    htmlStyle.PassThruHTML = True

  2. Added as the line break to the code:

    'Create pass thru html…

    Call rtBody.AppendStyle(htmlStyle)

    Call rtBody.AppendText(“
    ”)

Works great without the graphic being added through the AppendRTItem method.

As soon as the graphic is appended, the
is thrown out the window…

I add the graphic at the beginning of the email, then actual add Call rtBody.AddNewLine(2, True) — and that works, but nothing else does…

Subject: SOLUTION: AppendRTItem does not allow AddNewLine to work correctly on web

The only solution I could come up with was to create a document (a lookup document is what I used) that had an empty rich text field on it. The document had been saved.

I then did the old AppendRTItem where I wanted the line break and it seemed to work — it kept the
in the email…

Not sure if this is the perfect solution, but it is working for me…
