Anyone resolved the Blackberry iNotes E-mail problem?

We have a Blackberry setup with iNotes and we are having a problem with return addresses for our internal Notes users. It seems that whatever code is downloading the mail from iNotes is using the wrong “reply-to” address. (it’s CN/OU/O@O instead of the internet address.) This mail bounces even though the Blackberry can respond to E-Mail from outside of our org (Internet E-Mail.)

The blackberry web site has an article about it here:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8021/270925/Support_-_Messages_retrieved_from_an_integrated_iNotes_account_does_not_display_the_correct_Sent_From_address.html?nodeid=701734&vernum=1

The article states, “The BlackBerry Web Client obtains the Sent From address from the DisplayFrom value in the HTML source.” Their resolution is, “The iNotes mail template must include a valid SMTP address for all messages received, including internal corporate mail.”

I’m assuming that we’re not the only ones having this issue but I haven’t been able to find a fix for it. We only have 1 Blackberry right now so there is no way we are going to shell out for the Blackberry server. We are running 6.5.3 on the server with the DWA template.

Has anyone been able to get this working properly?

Matt, do you have the internet address listed in the location document for that user?

Yes, both the Person doc and the Location doc have the field filled in with the right address - although I don’t know if the Location doc would affect iNotes/DWA.

Can you clarify what you mean by “We have a Blackberry setup with iNotes” ?? Do you mean you are using the Blackberry Browser to access iNotes?

Or do you simply mean the design of the mail file used by the user who is configured for the Blackberry is the Domino Web Access 6 template?

If it is the latter, have you verified the internet address in the person doc, and that in Desktop Manager - Redirector Settings - Advanced, that it is also properly displayed?

As stated by the previous poster, as well, I would verify the default location doc that Desktop Manager is using and verify that the Internet Address on that location doc is also correct.

Finally, we had an issue with some iNotes users (not on Blackberry, just regular browser users) who had a similar problem - it was related to the Configuration document - Mime tab - Conversion Options - Outbound. Look at the help for the field “Lookup internet address…”

Hope this helps.

We have it set up so that the “Blackberry web client” at webclient.blackberry.net is configured to retreive E-mail from iNotes into the Blackberry mailbox. We are not accessing iNotes directly from the handheld (if that is even possible.) We are also not doing it via the Blackberry software that runs on the user’s workstation.

In the configuration document under MIME - Conversion Options - Outbound the “Lookup Internet address…” field is set to “Enabled.”

I’ve decided to try WirelessMail from MartinScott.com. It works almost perfectly so far but I have E-mailed and called them but no response yet. I’d like to recommend the product to the client but not if they are no longer supporting it…

[EDIT: They are supporting it and I have been trading E-Mails with them today.]

Any luck on resolving this mail send issue with the blackberry web client?

In a test of these devices, what we experience is that the username has .'s which are inserted from internal messages. For example the device is reading the display from as Firstname.Lastname/OU/O@O.

In speaking with RIM support, they state it is working as intended and we need to reconfigure the server to display the internet mail address of the user not the Notes name or setup a mail forward agent.

Instead of doing either, what did work was adding firstname.lastname/OU/O to the person doc as an alias shortname. But I don’t necessarily like that option as well.

Other ideas?

I am having the exact problem as Teresa. And adding the hierarchical name as and alias in my short name field did not help.

It would be nice if someone knew how to fix this.

I thought about modifying the “DisplayFrom” field in the mail template to show an RFC821 address format. Ex: “FirstName LastName” FILastName@domain.com

I don’t suppose anyone would know how to do that?
