Does anyone know about whether or not Groupsheild for Domino has a product that works on ND6?Trying to find info on their website is getting me nowhere. I’ve searched this forum to no avail either.
We want to move up to Notes 6 but need to know if GSD will run on Notes 6. Our next course is to set up a test environment but I wanted to ask here if anyone has any comments.

You need to remove Groupshield before upgrading to Domino 6. Not only will the R4/R5 version of Groupshield not work under Domino 6, it caused me to have a severe memory leak and when I tried removing GS after Domino was upgraded to 6, the uninstall procedure trashed my Domino server installation, causing me to have to do detective work and hand-editing of the ini file to get Domino running again. Almost had to restore from backup tape. Beware.
NAI is supposed top be readying a new version that is supported on the ND6 only on Windows NT4/2K servers, but I’ve personally had enough of this company and unsatisfactory performance + support that we’re right now researching switching to another vendor… probably Trend Micro, Norton, or Sophos+Sybari.

Neal,
Thanks for the heads up. I should have mentioned that we are running GSD 5.2. Is that the version you were running when you upgraded? Another response to my post suggests that 5.2 may or may not have any issues. If it was 5.2 that you were running we’d certainly like to know that your experience applies to 5.2 before we proceed.

No we were running GSD5 on AIX. On the day I upgraded to ND6, there was no information available from McAfee whatsoever about incompatibilities, just that GSD5 for AIX simply required Domino 4.6.7 or later, on AIX 4.3.3 which is exactly what we had. This episode, coupled with a week later where another McAfee product with current dats completely missed detecting 24 viruses (that I found while testing another antivirus product) just soured me completely on their products.
Like Ranier’s post shows, their 5.2 product docs do not claim full support of ND6, so in running it, you’ll be a “test pilot”. If you’re stuck with using them, you have my sympathy.

Thanks again Neal. Perhaps our NT/2000 servers will fair better than your AIX. Our testing will tell though. Thanks to you and all the others who took the time to respond.

For the most part, I’ve had no issues running GSD 5.2 on 6.0 servers. My only issue is that I can no longer see the “mail” subdirectory on Domino Administrator (or in a File | Open db dialog box), which means that I can’t modify the quotas on a database because I don’t see the database(s) listed in the Files tab. At least I haven’t figured out a way around it… Lotus tech support indicated it’s most likely a GSD problem and GSD says they don’t support R6 yet but I can sign up to be part of their beta program (no thanks). I’ll go to their latest release sometime in April but gee, I’m also up for GSD renewal sometime in the spring, so it may be time to shop around…

McAfee announced right before Lotusphere that they are going to ship GSD 5.2.1 in mid-March. Like others, I haven’t had any issues with GSD 5.2 and Domino 6/6.0.1 under Windows 2000. However, this version will be certified to work with ND6.
