Has anyone heard of a true notes client for pocket pc, either now or coming? We’re swapping out a fleet of laptops for pocket pc handhelds in 2004, but we’ve got these people already dependent on our in-house developed lotus notes forms…email’s no problem, but being able to use our notes apps on a pocket pc is…any ideas? Thanks!

I had this issue a few months ago. Needed to to access custom applications on an iPAQ when not online. After many searches, questions and research I found that mNotes from Common Time was by far the best solution for our needs. Their support is superior to other competitors that I spoke with and the product is easy to learn and implement.
They assisted in custom mappings for our CRM solution to the standard PocketPC contact form. If you need further customization they also have a product called mForms.
Hope this helps…

We are in the process of deploying our first application using CommonTime’s mForms. We are using a Notes developer to create the application and make the modifications required to operate in mForms.
I must say that we have been very impressed with the product (both mNotes for mail and PIM and mForms for custom apps.). We searched high and low for months to find a company that could do what CommonTime has done.
Products we looked at and panned: Pylon, Neomar and Domino Everyplace.
I recommend having a look at CommonTime.

I’m just starting down this path and have done some research, but everytime I look I just get more questions and not a lot of good answers. I will share what I have discovered so far, hopefully it will help you some.
There is no PocketPC Notes client, your options are to either store the Notes applications locally on the handhelds or to use a web interface. Given the way our sales force is using the technology I think we will probably opt to web-enable everything. I have done a bit of research but have spent the vast amount of my time working to get 50+ applications updated for web access.
If you want to store the applications locally most of the sites I have read point to a product called Pylon Pro. This will convert Notes apps to something you can download to the PocketPC and later synch with a Notes client. Everything I have read about it has been positive, and I have requested a demo CD from them so I can try it myself.
There is also a technology called Domino Offline Services (DOLS), but I’m not sure if that is available for PocketPC. My understanding is it lets you access Notes data via a web browser and download it to use offline, then you can synchronize it back with the server.
Another option could be Domino Everyplace. So far all I know is it has something to do with letting users access Notes data from handheld devices.
There are probably other things you could do, but those are the ones that seemed to be the easiest when I started looking. Hopefully someone else will jump in and give some input that will help both of us.

Charles:
The biggest issue with “web-enabling everything” is that most devices which would support web access will need GPRS access (in the US, anyway), and that’s a sticking point outside of metro areas.
Pylon Pro is a solution, but even the iAnywhere people (it’s their product) would probably point you toward a higher-end product; Pylon Pro only supports one form and one view per database. iAnywhere’s M Server is probably a better solution, but more costly.
DOLS does not work for a PDA.
Domino Everyplace Enterprise (the sync product) is being migrated into WebSphere Everyplace Access, so it’s not really a contender, either.
One of the other responders suggested checking out mForms from Commontime and I concur with that recommendation.
