Any possible leak in 6.5.3?

Hi,

We have just upgraded our servers to Domino 6.5.3

We have problems with two servers.

One of our servers is replication hub and central administration server with 60 users of notes mail. We are using ARCServe Domino Backup Agent. There are two cpu’s, 1GB RAM and Windows 2000 Server with sp4.

Normally, after a fresh start, memory usage is ~800/2000MB and average of 15-20% CPU Utilization.

After a week or two, memory usage is increasing to 1200/2000MB and CPU utilization to 60-70%. Users begin to complaint about slowness in specific applications.

Afterdays, memory usage becomes 1400/2000MB and CPU utilization 80-85%. Server becomes unavailable durin peek hours. That goes on until restart.

Another server with single cpu and 512MB RAM and again windows 2000SP4 and Domino 6.5.3 FP1, has only one task. It is direct mailing server.

The memory usage and CPU utilization is also increasing in this server but in a day, not weeks.

For example, mass mailing over 4000 messages; agent sends all messages but the amgr gives “Notes error: Insufficient memory - local heap is full” just after agent is done. After 4 agent run, server begins to generate router errors, dns problems, etc…

Two servers have a common property that both are extensively and frequently running agents. So the problem may be a memory leak in agent manager.

We decided to downgrade the second server to 6.5.2 to see if it is a version problem.

Any suggestions? or Anyone sees a similar situation?

when did you install the fix pack? Originally there were some files missing from the fix pack when it was first released. The FP was updated on Friday so you may want to check the release notes to see if there were any issues [ertain9ng to your situation. In any case I would reccommend replacing the fixpack.

And really and truly you should restart the Domino server weekly with a OS reboot monthly. Yes you will get the argument on a Win2K server etc that it “should” not need to be restarted weekly but such is Notes/Domino on non Unlix/Linux servers.

A simple restart program in names.nsf should do the trick weekly with the OS brought down and some diags run such as fixup compact and updall on names.nsf

I think weekly restart of a W2000 server is a bit too “hardcore”. We restart them once every month, and haven’t had any problem tickets so far. But after 60 days, it starts to get critical, and you will see wierd “out of memory” related problems in domino: mails will not be routed, agents fail to start, databases will be destroyed to an extend that they cannot be repaired, other than from backup or new replica from other server.

I will try the new fix before downgrade.

But direct marketing server have daily problems not weekly or monthly. So periodic restart is not an option.

We have applied new version of fix pack 1st.

no hope, still the same behaviour :frowning:

The problem with the marketing server resolved.

We were using midas lsx version 2.5 and it turned out that it is not compatible with R6.

That is correct. You would need to upgrade to Midas Rich Text LSX Version 3.x for ND6/6.5 support (3.0 was released in February 2003, but we are up to 3.40a now).
