Well, basically that. First Notes (Great), then Designer (OK, I might see the good thing about this). The clear path is the Admin Client now.
I can think about the benefits of plugins but, I hope they can deliver a good performance otherwise I am going to install the basic.

Not at all.
The eclipse-based designer was a HUGE change, in terms of getting used to how it worked. AND, mostly, it has been really buggy and flaky.
I don’t need the designer that much…but I need the Admin client very regularly–and I really don’t have the patience to deal with it being flaky (lots of errors, strange behavior, random crashes, interfaces not working, etc.).
The current version, in general, works pretty well and is relatively solid. Based on 8.x and 8.5.x experience, I worry greatly about how well (and smoothly) the change to an Eclipse-based Admin client will go.
