All mail deleted because of space saver

I was following an article (which I will attach the link to below) to try to fix my problem where my unread documents counts was larger than my actual unread documents. By going into replication, settings, space savers, and checking Remove Documents Not Modified in the last 0 days, it has deleted all of my messages! The messages don’t come back when I uncheck. Are they permanently gone, or are the still on the server somewhere?

Subject: You misread the instructions…

  1. Set the “Remove documents not modified in the last XX” days to 0. Do not enable/select the property’s checkbox.

Unfortunately all your documents are Gone. Hope you have a backup.

Unless you have a backup somewhere they are gone. The process you describe is used to clear deletion stubs but must be done by not checking the box next to the option you describe. If you check it and put 0 as the value it will delete all your documents.

I believe the unread document count is one of the fixes slated for 6.5.4 but check the Fix List Database to be sure.
