Agents as well!

Hi there,Just to follow on from a message posted just below about agents. I have two agents (running on a development server), which will run if “triggered on event” but when I schedule them they dont run at all…What is the problem here??? Any ideas? Is this a common problem because most threads dont seem to have an answer? Many thanks in advance…

What time are you running them? Do the agents have the proper security rights to run? Are you accessing db’s from another server? What, if any, are the log messages produced from the scheduled agent(s)? Also, what did you set as your “target”? I you did not, you may want to set your “target” to all “documents in database”. Also, check you db properties. Make sure you do not have “Disable background agents for this database” checked.

Hi SPJ,

  1. Just doing test at the min so using random times.

  2. I think so.

  3. No

  4. Nothing showing up in the logs i.e. agent not even running

5 + 6. I have it set to “all docs in the db”

  1. “Disable background agents for this database” is not checked

thanks again…any ideas still???

What are your agent’s security rights? Also, what server settings do you have the agent running on? For example, check you “agent settings” dialog box and post your settings for the agent.

The first one 1. Do not allow restricted operations

Set it to number 3. Also, what server settings do you have the agent running on? For example, check you “agent settings” dialog box and post your settings for the agent.

Not sure where you look for the “agent settings” so not sure about server settings…not that long at notes, sorry!!!

MIckey:

Take a look at you agent’s properties. When that dialog box opens, click the “scheduled” button. A dialog will appear titled, “Agent Schedule”. What are the values in the fields on that dialog box?

Agent runs on my dev server, and its not restricted and i specify a time (for testing purposes) which is at least 3 mins into the future…

Agent never fail silently. There is a lot of information on how to determine the nature of the problem in the Agent FAQ article called “troubleshooting agents in R6”. One of the simple tips from the FAQ: Start with running “Agent test” diagnostic, it will do a simulated run and report the most common errors.
