Agent SELECT statement Confusion - Need Clarification

Reading Designer Help I am now confused, Designer Help states that:

In an agent that runs a formula, you can include a SELECT statement in the formula. The agent acts upon the documents selected with the Agent Properties box AND the documents selected by the SELECT statement.

Does this mean that if I create scheduled agent:

Run = Daily

Target = All Documents in database

Document Selection = blank

Action Tab contains a series of @ commands to update some fields on each document,

and a SELECT statement = SELECT Form = “WorkHours” & WOComp !=“X” & OrderNo != “” & OrderNo != " "

Is my agent going to perform my @commands based just on the documents meeting my SELECT statement? Or is the agent going to preform the @commands on all documents in the database?

The designer help leads me to believe that the agent is going to run the @commands on every document in the database

I understand that the agent has to “read” each document regardless, but does the SELECT statement tell the agent which ones to update?

Thanks for the clarification

Chad,

It will act against those specified in your SELECT statement.

If your target was “all docs in view”, for example, and you ran this agent by picking it from the Action menu, then it would check all docs in that view but only act against the ones that met your SELECT statement.

So, Chad, technically it does use both, but in a limiting sense. It starts with what’s in the Action part and trims it further according to your SELECTion formula.
