Adobe Captivate

Hi all, I have been asked to evaluate Adobe Captivate with a view to publishing content on our Intranet and being able to monitor access to courses and see pass/fail rates and the like.

Has anyone done similar … ? I see there are 1 or 2 posts about Captivate but they don’t go into too much detail.

Presumably content could be stored on a network and accessed via a url link on a page … ?

Any help/advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello,I’ve used Adobe Captivate for some of our documentation / training of our Notes applications and was pretty simple to set up to use. While testing scenarios are built into the product, you need to have a separate system to publish the results in. These learning management systems are lot more expensive than the initial Captivate license. There is the possibility of having the results of a captivate emailed to an inbox and then have those results processed by some separate process that you write yourself, but that is a bit more complex.

Captivate by default creates the videos as a series of flash files and creates an html file to include them in. There are some additional features that make Word & PDF files out of the slides to be used as additional training resources.

There’s a way to embeded a web browser into a Notes form, so you can view the flash files either in your Notes Client content or from a Web Browser.

Good Luck.

Hi Jim, Many thanks. This is really useful info. Nice to know that someone else has done similar to what I am trying to achieve.

I am attacking this from both Notes.net side and the Adobe forum side. a chap from Adobe side said same regarding separate system to publish the figures in so that may be a stumbling block if it’s pricey. He wondered whether Notes had an LMS of some sort and he mentioned SCORM, the language that allows Captivate to communicate with LMS’s. There is an open source option apparently, Moodle.

Have you heard of that … ?

Next week I am going to download the 30 day trial and have a go.

Our HR folks have already seen it and want me to look at plugging the material into the intranet. But they do want to measure usage, who’s doing the courses and outcomes of tests, if that’s possible, etc …

Will keep you posted.

Regards

Subject: Adobe Captivate - testing

We have only used to produce training videos. So I am not familiar with the LMS out there, Lotus has eLearning ( http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/lsforum.nsf ), but I don’t know if that is the same.

At the very least, there is the option to have test results emailed and that comes with the basic package, but if you have 100’s of employees or tests to score, I don’t think that you’ll want to manage it manually. Although I suppose you could start out manually reviewing the results and use that to support a case to buy a package to track these, or at least the development to build something on your own.

Good luck.
