Administrator licence

Does anyone know if domino administrator requires a licence per user?

Subject: Administrator licence

As far as I know there was only a specific Administrator ( and Designer ) license up to Notes 5

Now just a normal access license required

Subject: Caution

Designer exits into the 6 version. I don’t know about 7. 8 definately includes designer and admin bundled in for no charge.

Making a mistake can be costly so I’d HIGHLY recommend you talk to whomever you’re buying your software from and make darn sure you have it right. IBM doesn’t have a ‘corporate’ license but they do have some where you license the server and get clients ‘free’.

Better to get a good answer from people who know than to make a mistake and pay for it during an audit.

Thanks for your reply.

To clarify, if we have a corporate licence then installing administrator on mulitple computers wouldn’t be a problem?

Typically Notes is licensed per user or at the server if you have the ‘utility server’. What does your license agreement say? Have YOU read the contract? If not, make SURE you understand the language.

Subject: Administrator licence

I know of no case where IBM Lotus has had a licensing model that charged a fee for use of the Domino Admin client, but the users must all be licensed Notes users with their own ID files. (A shared administrator ID may be used, but this must be in addition to a personal ID, not a substitute for it. The software license fees are owed per real user.)

However, you should not take my word for this, as I am not in the business of licensing software and cannot guarantee that I am familiar with all of IBM’s current licensing terms. You should take Doug’s advice. Either familiarize yourself with the terms of your organization’s IBM license agreement, or ask your IBM rep for guidance.
