Administrator client

We will be upgrading our Administration server within the next week. I read in the Upgrade Redbook that you should upgrade your administrator clients at that time also. We have a group of people that only register users through the administrator client. Is it absolutely necessary to upgrade their administrator clients right away? Will there be problems if we don’t upgrade them right away? We don’t want to upgrade them right away if we don’t have to. I hope to hear from someone ASAP. I didn’t even think of that group of people until now and it is so close to the upgrade. Thank you

For what it’s worth - and that may not be a lot  - we ran around with a mixed environment for a while.

Our admin server was upgraded and most of our admin client were upgraded, but some were left behind to help support the R5 client base we still had… (well… have, clients take a lot longer to rollout!)

What I can tell you is that you can do your basics with the R5 admin client on R6 servers, but what I can’t tell you is if those people can continue to register new users without any issues. My assumption, and we all know how dangerous it can be to assume, would be that while they could register users they will potentially be missing out on some of the new features available in 6. There are new fields and options when setting up a user (i.e. policies) that you won’t see on an R5 client.

Personally I wouldn’t consider this a show stopper… especially if you can catch them in the next week or so and before they start registering new users.
