We have some users who like to call local address book groups the same as the groups in the Network address book. This as you know can and does cause loads of fun when the Network address book groups are edited and the user sends emails to the group. As the Notes client always checks the local address book first, these “updates” are not included.
Is there anyway to have the Client check the Network Address Book and send using its membership first before looking for a match locally?
I know the Location Doc goes a little along the way to help sort this but, apart from Receipient name lookup being set to exhaustive, the “Recipient name type-ahead” is sorely lacking.
Why no Server then Local?
Thanks for any help/pointers on this

perhaps a workaround if the local groups are created manually. Add as group-members only the name of the group which is known on the server.

Thanks for all the help on this. Will advise upgrading to Release 7 at least. It will cure alot of evils. Renaming accounts not the least
Thanks again, and Happy New Year
Subject: Address Lookup
What you are asking for has been added to the LN 7.0.2 client
(from the update notes)
When you address a mail message, Notes can now look into the server address book first, instead of the user’s personal address book. To use this feature, choose ‘Server then Local’ in the “Mail addressing” field shown below. Note that this field is only visible if your mail file location is set to “Local”.
Subject: Address Lookup - NOPE does not work in 7.0.2 although Release Notes claim to…
Hi
Would have been nice if Lotus had sorted this out after AGES.
Have read this in the 7.0.2 ReleaseNotes but it doesn’t. Steps to reproduce:
-
create a new local addressbook using the 7.0.2 pernames.ntf
-
set the mail file location to “local”
-
check the “recipient names type-ahead” selection list, it only shows “disabled”, “local only” and “local then server”.
Might have missed something here but according to other posts here others experienced the same.
One more proof that Lotus Template Development is not delivering quality.

I was looking forward to this feature finally being available, too, but it isn’t. It should have been an option from day one. I just upgraded a test server to 7.0.2 & I couldn’t find the parameter or get it to work either. Then I reread the release notes & lo & behold, as the last line of Max’s excerpt shows, this parameter only works if you’re working with a Local mailbox, not a server-based one!!! And even then, it appears to work for address resolution, not type-ahead.
The biggest issue most people I know of have is when you have the same person in your personal contacts, (probably with personal email addresses, phone numbers, etc.), that also exists in the company directory. It will always find the personal data first since you can’t tell Notes to look in the server first.
Oh well…enough complaining. It’s always been that way with Notes & we all have our workarounds. I just resent the impression the release notes gave that they finally gave us something of value in this area.
