If I have an entry in my Personal Address Book as ‘Paul’, when I type ‘Paul’ in the address bar it does not show all the other ‘Paul …’ from the Main Address Book until I press F9.
I also have a secondary local address book, (for test, but the server also has a secondary address book the the problems are the same) that also contains some entries starting with ‘Paul’, but they do not appear in the lookup at all.
If I continue and type ‘Paul T’, it auto-completes to my name from the local secondary address book. So on F9 the auto-complete name is used rather than lookup for all names starting ‘Paul T’ of which there are a number.
Can anybody figure out how exhaustively checking address books can work consistently.
I have found a technote on Differences between Recipient Name Lookup and Recipient Name Type-ahead155210
If both are enabled in the Location Doc, then Type-Ahead works first and this is predefined to stop on first match.
On pressing Enter, then it will produce an Ambiguous Name dialog if the name is not unique. But the results are ONLY a list from the Address Book that the first Type-Ahead existed in.
On Pressing F9 or SEND you then call the Recipient Name Lookup function. (Which you would have to press if Type-Ahead is disabled anyway !!)
This then uses the Exhaustively check setting or Stop on first match. (But if this is true, and it stops on first match, you could end up getting a delivery failure as the server router performs an exhaustive lookup on all available directories.)
This is confusing for me the administrator. The users are just getting hacked off.
Hope this slight translation help somebody figure out what it going on in their environment!!
You can force the lookup to function like when you press F9 by modifying the NOTES.INI file for the user(s). This will exhaustively search local & then server nab.
