Adding a Directory Group to a mail file ACL

Hi guys, having a problem that I need a little help with.

My situation - I have a need for multiple users to see a certain individual users’ calendar. Those multiple users are conveniently part of a group that has already been defined in my directory. Was thinking that I could edit the ACL for the individual users’ mail file and just give the group access to it - this does not appear to be working. I’ve added the defined group as a Mixed Group, Person Group, Unspecified, etc. and given the required rights but none of that seems to be working. When I log in as one of the members of the group and try to open the individual users’ calendar, I get the following error message:

“you have not enough rights for mail/cct.nsf/iNotes/Calendar/?OpenDocument. Please login with a username and password which has sufficient rights.”

Even though it appears I’m adding the group to the ACL, members of that group still don’t have access to that calendar.

Domino 8.0.2 and using DWA.

Any insight? Thanks in advance!

Subject: Internet Credentials

Have you tried to hit the application/database from a notes client with one of the users in the group?

Subject: Using the Notes client

In response to using a Notes client, I have not tried that. I am currently the only user that uses the Notes client, all other users access DWA for mail, calendaring, etc. My account is an admin account, so I have access to all other mail files within the directory.

I will try this tomorrow and see what the result is.

Thanks!

Subject: Is that group in the public Domino directory or your personal Address book?

From what you wrote, I can’t tell. The group would need to be in the Domino directory on the server for it to be useful.

Subject: The group is a Domino group

Hi, thanks for the response. The group that I am referring to is in my Domino directory, not in any personal address book. The group itself simply consists of a collection of email addresses that when a message is sent to the group@domain.com, that message is received by all group members. My thoughts were that I could use that group (and as a direct result, its corresponding members) to give access to this individual mail file, instead of having to enter each user into the ACL for that mail file.

Subject: So the group doesn’t contain Notes names?

If so, that’s the issue, you need to put Notes names into the group if you want to give access. They’ll still get the emails sent to the group, as well.

You can’t put email addresses into a group and use it to grant access to databases.

Subject: The group only contained email addresses…

I tried adding what I thought was the Notes name, but still no success.

Had to reboot the server for another reason, then it worked fine. Would I have to stop and start any services within Domino after adding each person’s Notes name to the group?

Subject: Fixed!

Disregard my previous post, it’s working now - just seems like Domino takes a few minutes to update itself once I added the Notes names to the specified groups.

It’s working now, thanks for all of the help!
