Hi,
I’ve just migrated a group of 200+ users to Domino 7 from Groupwise. Have another 3000 users to go in different brands from Groupwise and Exchange going to be migrated on Domino 7.
Couple of users are asking about a facility in Groupwise which allows them to attach mail in their in-box into new memo that they create as attachment.
If you try to do this in Notes, it just creates a link. Has anyone else come across this? I’m not too sure if Notes even supports this function.
Also, can an entire email be saved on a File/Print Server?
Some users are die-hard Groupwise; please help.
Subject: Add Email as Attachment in New Memo
Hi,Not strictly an approved solution, but needs must. I’ve been looking at openntf.org mail experience template for 7.0.2 and it has the ability to forward a MIME email as an RFC-822 attachment. This may be of use. v1.2 had the ability to export as RFC-822 but this seems to have been lost to Forward.
Native Notes: you can open any email and export the text as an RTF. This embeds a pic of any attachments in the file. You need to specify “.rtf” as the file extension (why in this day and age Lotus can’t append this automatically is beyond me…) to copy the atts off separately. It’s a pain as we too are migrating users from Outlook and they use this mechanism heavily to save off .eml files.
Basically Notes is a PITA to get anything out of…

Subject: RE: Add Email as Attachment in New Memo
We use OpenNTF1.7b (6.5x version) and we find the Forward MIME to RFC-822 very useful in sending SPAM examples that get through to our Anti-SPAM provider (messagelabs).
Otherwise, getting the required information is pretty much not possible.
I think this is exactly what your users are wanting. You basically select a message in the inbox view (don’t open it), and then select tools/Forward MIME as RFC-822. This creates a new message with the previous message attached with .eml extension.
Here’s a useful link on extracting headers for R5 and R6.
R6 will let you view the page source (some of the time) of a message.

I know I’m getting slightly off topic here.

This cannot be done. See Technote 1242327:
Problem
Using Lotus Notes®, you want to save a mail document as a stand-alone file. Is this possible?
Solution
No. This functionality does not exist in Notes. An enhancement request was submitted to Quality Engineering as SPR #LPEE6NCLQA. Currently, there are no plans to incorporate this functionality.
Possible workarounds:
-
Export the message into an ASCII Text or Microsoft RTF file, which exports the content of the message including the To, cc and bcc fields. The exported data can be used as an attachment.
-
If Domino® Access for Microsoft® Outlook is configured, you can create .eml files from Notes messages that are replicated into Outlook.
