Accessing this forum via Web

I can’t sign in since the downtime. Nothing has changed my end, so something must be different on the other side.

Subject: Accessing this forum via Web

Same here. Login form keeps reappearing and I’m not rejecting the cookie. Something is broken at dW…

Subject: Web registration will be working shortly.

Sorry about the inconvenience.

Subject: One hostname is working, the other isn’t.

Steps to reproduce the problem.

If go to the forum via http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf (e.g. from the IBM site), then the login will probably work for you.

If go to the forum via web4.notes.net/ldd/nd6forum.nsf (e.g. from a Google search or a bookmark), then the login will probably not work at present.

Workaround.

I’d guess that an LDD person needs to look at proxying rules and SSL server certificates… or something.

Have fun,

Subject: RE: One hostname is working, the other isn’t.

Please don’t access the site using a “numbered server” address such as web4.notes.net.

www-10.lotus.com is our site address while web4.notes.net is one of our individual server host names.

“Sign in” to the site will not work using an individual server because our SSL certs are tied to www-10.lotus.com.

The problem we had earlier today was a network problem; the differences in host names is normal.

While for years we have kept each server accessible via its individual host name (making it easier for us to administer), lately we’ve been seeing it be exposed in too many places (such as Google) and we may need to start redirecting traffic to www-10.lotus.com.

Subject: URL translation isn’t the site user’s responsibility

Respectfully, I’d suggest to you that it’s not the site user’s responsibility to recognise that a URL returned by a search engine is “sub-optimal”.

If access via real host names causes you SSL or SSO problems, then it’s kind of your responsibility to get your load-balancing and URL translation set up to handle this. At least, that’s the case if you’re interested in serving a workable site.

You say the dual host name issue is a long-standing one, but my impression is that for a long while it was all neatly presented under www.notes.net.
