8.5b2 will not start on Mac

When starting Beta2 on my Mac, immediately after the dialog “Lotus Notes is starting, please wait…” it stops. The following errors are found in the Mac console.

Has anyone experienced this? And yes I have already uninstalled and cleaned up all the files.

Subject: Please check file permission and run the tool to collect related log

Please make sure you have execution right for those files:

Notes.app/Contents/MacOS/rcp/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.rcp.base.xxx/macosx/x86/eclipse

Notes.app/Contents/MacOS/rcp/rcplauncher

If you have already have execution right, please run this tool to collect related logs and mail the .tgz to us

Thanks!

Subject: Thank you for reporting this issue…

I sent your info off to our Mac dev team.

I have not seen this issue on my Mac however I would suggest moving your notes.preferences out from the /Library/Preferences to the desktop and then try install again. If you still have an issue please include your logs under /Library/Lotus Notes Data/Expeditor/Applications/Logs. Please include provisioning.log, rcplauncher.log and the trace logs. Also check /Library/Lotus Notes Data/IBM_Technical_Support for any nsd files.

Subject: Deleted Notes Preference

I removed the Notes Preference file before installing. That does not seem to fix the problem. It crashes just after the id password is entered.

I have attached the log files

Subject: Re: 8.5b2 will not start on Mac

I hit the same issue. After login, Notes ends with following in the console:

kfmpromp.cpp to line 6782 took 31 msec.

Notes(1976,0xa04edfa0) malloc: *** error for object 0xc73d87df: Non-aligned pointer being freed

*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug

Subject: Re: 8.5b2 will not start on Mac

I removed everything with del8.sh script which was posted in this forum some time ago.

Then I reinstalled everything again. Does not help. Error is still there.

Subject: Same problem here

Beta 2 works perfectly on my Mac Pro but fails with above error on my MacBook Pro. Both machines run the same software (10.5.5, VMWare 2.0) and have the same settings as far as I can tell (e.g firewall).

I found that installing the basic client (notes85_notesbasic_mac_beta2_prod) instead of the full client (notes85_notes_mac_beta2_prod) works without problems

Hello all,Could you pls have a new standard client installation after delete or back up some files by manually?

the files needed to delete:

1./Applications/Notes.app

2./Library/Receipts/xpdcoreinstaller.pkg

3./Library/Receipts/Lotus Notes Installer.pkg

4./Library/Receipts/Lotus Notes Installer_English.pkg

the files needed to back up:

1.~/Library/Application support/Lotus Notes Data

2.~/Library/Preferences/Notes Preferences

Subject: Same issue after deleting the files

I still have the same issue after deleting the files outlined.“Lotus notes is starting please wait…” and then nothing.

Subject: Same problem here

Is there any update on this? I just started having the same problem. Notes was running great for the three weeks, and then this morning would not start up. When I checked the logs, I saw the malloc errors. The only change I made to they system yesterday was installing WindowShade, but I’m pretty sure I ran Notes after I did that without a problem. (Not 100% sure, though.) In any event, I uninstalled WindowShade this morning when the problem started, and that didn’t seem to fix anything. Just like everyone else, uninstalling and reinstalling seem to have no effect, even if I get rid of preferences and data folders.

Subject: one other thing

Also, not sure if this indicates anything, but I noticed after I uninstalled and then reinstalled that the Lotus Notes icon got messed up. It still appears correctly if I click on my hard drive and navigate to the applications folder. However, I also have a shortcut to the Apps folder in my dock, and when I click on the folder, the pop-up that displays its contents shows the Notes icon as an icon of a folder with a small red circle with a line through it (like a no-smoking sign) in the corner of it.

Subject: Fixed my problem!

It turns out the problem (at least for me, can’t speak for others) was related to my installation of WindowShade. Although I had uninstalled WindowShade after the problem started happening, I didn’t realize it installed a helper application called “Application Enhancer” that must be separately uninstalled. I went to the Application Enhancer preferences pane, selected uninstall, and Notes started right up.For those still having this problem, are you using WindowShade or Application Enhancer?

I tried to add a file with the logs to the post, but I get a Error 500

Is there another way I can send you the logs?
